Please join us in celebrating Liberia’s
162nd Independence Day on July 25th Washington, DC.
With 15
counties and 16 tribal/ethnic groups, Liberia is a country of unique
culture and history. This year’s
celebration, themed Unity in Diversity, will showcase Liberia’s rich
culture and the uniqueness of each county through works of art, food, music,
industries and other items.
Last year,
approximately 2000 people attended the celebration and this year we expect
about 5000 guests. So please come out and enjoy the festivities!
Why should you attend?
African Americans – Liberia
is your home away from home...Ask Oprah and Bob Johnson. Liberia was founded by your great grandparents -
In 1822, the American Colonization Society established Liberia as a
place to send freed slaves due to abolition of slavery. Click these links to find out more: http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/african/afam002.html
or http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/globalconnections/liberia/essays/history/.
Africans – Liberia’s
history is embedded in yours. Liberia
was not only the first independent nation in Africa
but also set the stage for other countries to follow; it was also a founding
member of the Organization of African Unity (now AU).
Everyone – If you have not heard about Liberia, this is your chance to learn
about this small country that continues to make history – from being the first
independent nation in Africa to having the first female president in Africa,
Liberia continues to defy all odds and is opening its doors to everyone!
ONE Liberia is an advocacy group dedicated to promoting a united Liberia. By educating and empowering Liberians, ONE Liberia advocates and promotes a united Liberia and campaigns against using the wedge of tribalism and ethnicity.
